Dr Jonathan Nettle is an obstetrician gynaecologist, fertility specialist and laparoscopic surgeon in private practice at Frances Perry House and at the Epworth Hospital. He also works as a consultant at the Royal Women’s Hospital.

Experience

Jonathan graduated from Medicine and Surgery at Monash University with Honours. He commenced medical practice at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. At this time he completed a post graduate diploma in surgical anatomy at the University of Melbourne.

Jonathan subsequently moved to complete specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal Women’s Hospital, Parkville. His training was characterised by management of complex obstetric patients and extensive experience in the birth suite. Jonathan’s advanced fellowship training centred around a combination of high risk obstetrics, ultrasound, gynaecology and advanced laparoscopy for conditions such as endometriosis. These years were completed at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Parkville and at Sunshine Hospital.

Having received his fellowship Jonathan completed a Masters in Reproductive Medicine with the University of New South Wales. He also undertook further training in infertility and works as a specialist with Number One Fertility (Founded by Dr Lynn Burmeister).

In addition to his focus on private practice, Jonathan is an active researcher in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. Recent publications include a paper looking at Vaginal birth after Caesarean section published in the Australian Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2018 and another in 2020 looking at the effect of epidural analgesia on perineal trauma.

Jonathan is member of the Frances Perry House Medical Advisory Committee and contributes to medicolegal reviews as RANZCOG expert witness.

Jonathan is also a mentor of obstetricians in training and is involved in medical student education at the Royal Women’s Hospital.

Jonathan is married to Jessie. Together, they have three young children. Jessie, Charlie, Isabel and William are Jonathan’s life outside of work.
